SOUTH STREATOR — A Streator man was jailed Friday after being accused of slashing a person early Wednesday in South Streator.

Matthew Lopez, 27, is charged with aggravated battery, according to a statement issued by Livingston County Sheriff Tony Childress. He said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.

He did not release the name of the person who was injured. Emergency workers took the victim to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, for emergency surgery, the statement said.

Childress said police were called about 4 a.m. Wednesday to a possible stabbing near Carriage Lane Estates, South Streator, and found a person who was "bleeding profusely" after having been cut with a "Rambo-style" knife.

Lopez was taken into custody about five hours later after police executed a search warrant in that neighborhood. Bond for Lopez was set at $150,000.
