Woodford deputy, second man injured in head-on crash

MINONK — A Woodford County deputy and a man from Granville escaped serious injury early Thursday when their vehicles crashed head-on on Interstate 39 near mile marker 27 north of Minonk.

Both were taken to a hospital and later released, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said the man's truck was traveling south in the northbound lanes about 4:17 a.m. He had "suffered a medical condition" and was traveling at a slow rate of speed; the deputy tried to slow the vehicle but it hit the squad car head-on.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
