Kinzinger town hall set today
BLOOMINGTON — U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger will host a town hall meeting at 2 p.m. today at Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St., at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Beatification Mass today in Peoria
PEORIA — Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, has invited Catholics throughout the Diocese of Peoria to celebrate the beatification of Pope John Paul II by attending a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria.
Those who have a “second-class relic” — an article touched by Pope John Paul II or received from him — and would like it included for veneration should call Monsignor Stanley Deptula at 309-671-1550.
Parks, rec events honor mothers
BLOOMINGTON — The city parks and recreation department has three events tied to Mother’s Day, which is Sunday.
Mothers will receive free greens fees at Highland Park golf course, Prairie Vista golf course or The Den at Fox Creek golf course.
At Miller Park Zoo, mothers will get in free with one child’s paid admission.
During the open skate from 2:30 to 4 pm, Pepsi Ice Center will grant free admission to any mom who brings a picture of her child.
Brownie troop aids society
BLOOMINGTON — Brownie Troop 1222 is using a portion of its cookie sales money to make a $100 contribution to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
The troop, which has 15 girls in the third grade from Metcalf and Stevenson schools, also is collecting and donating supplies to the Humane Society.
Viper car event today in Roanoke
ROANOKE — Roanoke Motor Co. will host car enthusiasts today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a Viper event that includes air brushing a 2009 Viper and display of a 2011 Dodge Charger drag-pak.
Giveaways and refreshments will be available. Viper Club members will be present.
Road closures set in area
BLOOMINGTON — Several road closures have been announced:
The Funks Grove railroad crossing closure has been extended to May 16, according to the McLean County Highway Department.
County Road 2600 East, between 2125 North and 2200 North roads, will be closed to through traffic May 10 through Aug. 31 for bridge replacement.
West Street in Lexington, from South to Main streets, will be closed to through traffic through May 13 for sewer line work.
