WWII veteran set as speaker

HEYWORTH — A Memorial Day Service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Little-Embry-Rainey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1559, Heyworth. The guest speaker will be David Brown of Northbrook, a World War II veteran of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. He landed on Utah Beach.

The observance will include an invocation by the Rev. Amanda Richards and welcomes by Mike Backlund, commander, Carl E. Miller American Legion Post 624 and Roger Devore, commander of the Heyworth VFW Post.

Following the service, there will be a march to the Heyworth Cemetery to decorate graves by the American Legion Auxiliary. There will be a prayer at the cemetery by the Rev. Richard Gray and Taps by Rodger Zook.

Memorial Day plans made

WAYNESVILLE — Waynesville American Legion Post 1189 has set the schedule for Memorial Day services in Waynesville. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. May 30 with the cemetery order to be Evergreen, Union, Rockcreek and Fairview, and then return to the Legion.

There will be a reading about the Korean War and presentation of appreciation certificates to Korean War veterans.

A table ceremony by the Clinton V.F.W. will follow with lunch for everyone.
