SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation Tuesday allowing Illinois State University to start offering liquor sales at its golf course.
Quinn's action paved the way for golfers at the Weibring Golf Club to begin purchasing beer within about a month.
University spokesman Phil Adams said the university must still secure a liquor license, special insurance and some additional coolers before launching the sales.
The measure moved through the General Assembly this spring with little debate.
Adams said some golfers were already carrying their own beer onto the links. The legislation will allow the course to capture some of that revenue, as well as offer an amenity to golfers who can purchase alcohol at nearly every other course in the area.
