One last laugh from winter made its way through Central Illinois on March 6, 2019, as fresh snow covers the Minor Myers Jr. statue "What's Your Passion?" outside Illinois Wesleyan University's Ames Library in Bloomington.

BLOOMINGTON — Former Illinois Wesleyan University President Minor Myers Jr. is the focus of a new book.

Professor and Associate Provost Emeritus Roger Schnaitter reflects on Myers' presidency in "Minor Myers Jr., A Passion for Books." It will be available for purchase beginning Tuesday.

“I would like readers who are not previously acquainted with Minor Myers Jr. to appreciate the interesting character and complexity he brought to the presidency of Illinois Wesleyan University,” Schnaitter said in a statement issued by the university.

Schnaitter’s set of personal reflections tells the story of two driving passions in Myers’ 14-year presidency (1989-2003): his passion for collecting a personal library that numbered over 13,000 volumes, and his devotion to providing IWU with an exemplary campus library.

In addition, Schnaitter explores Myers’ passion for music, which led to his harpsichord collaboration with the The Camerata string ensemble, and his commitment to providing better opportunities for multicultural students.

The book will be available at the campus bookstore, Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St.; on the bookstore website; and on Amazon.
