BLOOMINGTON — A 1974 Illinois Wesleyan University graduate and retired business executive from Lake Forest has been elected chair of the school's board of trustees.
Timothy Szerlong was elected during a recent board meeting; he has been a member of the board since 2011.
He succeeds George Vinyard, a Glen Ellyn attorney who has been a trustee for 42 years, including 14 years as chair. Vinyard, a 1971 graduate of IWU, will remain on the board.
Szerlong is retired as president of worldwide field operations for CNA Financial Corp. He also held various positions during a 44-year insurance career with the Chubb Corp. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from IWU and later completed the advanced management program at the Wharton School of Busienss at the University of Pennsylvania.
Other officers elected or re-elected to the board include: vice chairs Nancy Hutson, DeLand, Fla.; Ann Marquis Fisher, Pleasanton, Calif.; and W. Thomas Lawrence, Chicago; treasurer Robert Zimmerman, St. Louis; and secretary Herbert Getz, Naperville.
Willie Brown of Bloomington and Robert Field of New Lenox also remain on the board although they stepped down as officers.
Other trustees re-elected at the meeting include Ceasar Douglas, Vaughn Hoffman, John Horton, Nancy Hutson, Daniel Jameson, Kathy Larey Lewton, Thomas Neis and Edward Rust Jr.
Two new trustees were elected to three-year-terms on the board: Danielle Kays of Bloomington and Sundeep Mullangi of Chicago.
