NORMAL -- Golfers at Illinois State University's Wiebring Golf Club soon could be sipping a brew on the course or in the clubhouse.
In a unanimous vote Thursday, the Illinois Senate approved a proposal to allow liquor sales at the university-owned links, propelling the measure to Gov. Pat Quinn's desk for final approval.
Although some golfers were already carrying their own beer onto the links, the actual sale of booze hasn't been allowed. Supporters see the legislation as a way for the course to make some extra money.
If Quinn approves the measure, liquor sales could begin immediately.
