Celebrating Mother’s Day on ice was a new experience — and a fun one — for Bloomington’s Shalina Gandhi and her family on Sunday.
Gandhi, who laced up ice skates for the first time in her life, joined her husband, Siddharth, and children, Ayra, 6, Annika, 4, and Aarav, 2, at the Mother’s Day Skate at the Pepsi Ice Center in downtown Bloomington. It was a free for moms.
“This is the first time I have ever put on skates and I have a newfound respect for people who can skate and can skate well,” she said. “It’s harder than it looks. It’s a lot of fun, and the kids are having a great time. But, I’m not very good at this.”
It was also a special day for Alexis Astorina of Bloomington who celebrated Mother’s Day and the fifth birthday of her son, Miles, at the Pepsi Ice Center.
“It’s just an extra special day because we get to celebrate both things at one time,” she said. “We’ve got the whole family here and this is one day we won’t forget.”
