NORMAL — A Normal Fire Department truck caught fire and was destroyed Wednesday morning on eastbound Interstate 74 near Knoxville.
"Today, on the interstate on the way back from refurbishment, Engine 15 suffered some kind of mechanical failure in the rear end, which then caught fire," the fire department said in a Facebook post.
"The fire is not believed to be related to the refurbishment work, and is under investigation."

As it was not in service, the truck was not carrying any firefighting equipment, which limited the loss to the vehicle itself, the department said.
No one was injured.
The Knoxville Fire Protection District, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation assisted NFD.
