Fifty years after his death, the legacy of one of Bloomington's favorite sons, Adlai Stevenson II, lives on. Stevenson served one term as Illinois governor and was defeated twice for president by Dwight D. Eisenhower before stepping in to his best-known role, that of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
