May 7, 1911: May 3 marked ten years since Gridley's great fire. The Gridley Advance reports "our fair village was a sorry sight after the fire got thru with it but she's all right now and better than before. It has been a decade of continuous improvements."

May 7, 1936: John Harbert Rhodes, 80, has died in Trumbull, Nebraska. While he made no real history here, he was a true link to the city's distant past. His father, James Monroe Rhodes, was said to be the first child born in Bloomington.

May 7, 1961: Thanks to Saturday's warm weather, William Woizeski is back at Miller Park. He's a 79 year old volunteer gardener. Mr. Woizeski planted about a dozen flower beds for the park last year. He used his own plants and those given to him by his neighbors.

May 7, 1986: Vandals struck historic Evergreen Cemetery, the city's oldest, during the night. About 35 headstones were overturned, leaving damage amounting to $2,500. The cemetery board has approved a $1,500 reward for information leading to arrest of the culprits.
