100 years ago

June 10, 1917: John Morrissey, who attends the University of Illinois, will head to France to become part of the ambulance corps. He’s one of 75 Illini who signed up when a recruiter came through campus. His father is Bloomington attorney John Morrissey.

June 10, 1942: LeRoy’s business and civic leaders voted to cancel the Fall Festival for this year, but gave no reason for the record. All the money will be kept in the festival’s treasury and the officers will be retained for another term.

50 years ago

June 10, 1967: A few downtown businessmen unveiled their vision for upgrading the 400 block of North Main Street. The block has been showing signs of decay. The plan shows no signs hanging over the sidewalk and architectural touches that can transform drab facades.

25 years ago

June 10, 1992: Unit 5’s proposed new elementary school and high school will cost more than first estimated, so the school board has authorized reopening the bidding for roof work and remodeling. District officials hope to trim the costs by $980,000, back to $21 million.
