100 years ago

Feb. 29, 1912: Today we observe Leap Year, which comes once every four years. An easy way to remember which year will be a leap year is that it falls in the same year as the presidential election. At least 30 are people are observing birthdays today.

75 years ago

Week of Feb. 28, 1937: Advertised in the Pantagraph: "I Kill Bedbugs". Herbert L. Brown, insecticide marker, exterminator and fumigator, is doing business at 608½ North Main Street. He will perform the service or sell you his product so you can do the job yourself.

50 years ago

Week of Feb. 28, 1962: NCHS junior Sharon Denney happens to be a Leap Year baby, born February 29, 1944. She'll celebrate her birthday tomorrow. Ever since an auto accident she's been in and out of the hospital, and tomorrow she'll celebrate at St. Joseph.

25 years ago

Week of Feb. 28, 1987: The McLean County Historical Society and the Bar Association are the only two groups asking for space in the old court house building. The whole building will be available once the last county offices move to the expanded Law and Justice Center.
