100 years ago

Oct. 24, 1909: ISNU's basketball team looks strong for the upcoming season, and BHS has high hopes. IWU and Normal High School would like to have teams again, but both face the big obstacle of having a place to play. A new rule in the game will allow for glass backboards.

75 years ago

Oct. 24, 1934: Clarksville, west of Lexington, held its village centennial celebration in the form of a homecoming and basket dinner at the church. Clarksville has only a few houses and abandoned buildings. (It's bigger today, but has little identity as a village.)

50 years ago

Oct. 24, 1959: Leaders of the United Fund Drive have extended the campaign deadline one more week with 80 percent of the goal in the bank. Collections are three weeks ahead of where they were in 1958. The goal is $281,414.

25 years ago

Oct. 24, 1984: Unit 5 and District 87 are considering formation of a community college district. Most Illinois counties are part of such districts already. But McLean, Dewitt, Tazewell, Logan, Mason and Livingston are not.
