May 15, 1911: Bloomington and Normal Township voters buried the new park proposal by a 3-1 margin. If passed, it would have created the Sugar Creek Valley Park District in the land that lies between Bloomington and Normal.

75 years ago

May 15, 1936: Ed Larson has been at work on the court house dome, fixing copper flashings around the support columns. Workers are also re-gilding the four six-foot clock faces to make them easier to see from street level.

50 years ago

May 15, 1961: NCHS students have built a house which will be open to the public Sunday. It's a three bedroom ranch home at 14 Wilmette. The house has been appraised at $24,250. The Unit 5 school board hopes to sell it via closed bid.

25 years ago

May 15, 1986: The Illinois House of Representatives killed a bill requiring smoke alarms in homes. Democrats argued it saves lives, Republicans claimed it was too intrusive on individual rights. The bill may come up again. (It's now the law in Illinois.)
