May 16, 1911: Old timers here recall the murder of an unidentified man found east of the fairgrounds in the 1890's. The killer was never caught. Now comes word that J.W. Lee, alias J.W. Duckett, confessed to the crime just before he died yesterday in Wichita Falls, Texas.

75 years ago

May 16, 1936: Bloomington City Council voted unanimously to restore city workers pay - including that of the mayor and aldermen - to pre-depression levels. They all took a ten percent reduction in 1932. The restoration is immediate.

50 years ago

May 16, 1961: Another link with McLean County's pioneer past was lost this week with the passing of Julius Funk, 77. He was the grandson of settler Isaac Funk. A retired consulting engineer, Mr. Funk lived in New Jersey.

25 years ago

May 16, 1986: The Heyworth school board booted Superintendent Richard Gartner with a $30,000 buyout and a written recommendation for future employers. The board had tried to fire Gartner once before, but they briefly patched up their relationship.
