How Time Flies for Oct. 15, 2009:

100 years ago

Oct. 15, 1909: Jacksonville editor Samuel Nichols brought over 400 school kids here for a day of sightseeing and entertainment. Each year he takes a supervised bunch of kids somewhere. Nichols is known in Jacksonville as the fairy godfather to poor children.

75 years ago

Oct. 15, 1934: The 75-year old former president of the Saybrook State Bank is in jail for allegedly mishandling trust funds in the Charles Sears estate. Charles Schureman gave himself up. He could not account for about $26,500 belonging to the widow and seven other heirs.

50 years ago

Oct. 15, 1959: Actor Erroll Flynn, 50, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack while visiting Vancouver, British Columbia. He was known for his dashing manner and adventures both on and off the screen.

25 years ago

Oct. 15, 1984: An underage male working for Sheriff Steve Brienen bought alcohol at several liquor spots, no ID required. Two outlets were in the county, and will be dealt with. The others will be local issues in Heyworth, Ellsworth, Cooksville, Gridley and Anchor.
