May 3, 1911: Work is practically done on the new Clinton Street bridge over Sugar Creek. The board of improvements has not accepted it yet, but some grading is all that remains undone. The streetcar tracks over the bridge still need some attention.

May 3, 1936: Regular air mail service will soon begin at Bloomington. The post office is filling up with specially printed and stamped envelopes to be on that first flight. Many are from stamp collectors.

May 3, 1961: Lincoln is a city with only two banks. But now five backers have proposed the state issue a charter for a new financial institution, The Logan County Bank. Four of the backers are from Lincoln, while the fifth is from Springfield.

May 3, 1986: When Clara Peller hollered "Where's the beef?" in commercials for Wendy's, the firm's hamburger sales jumped. Now Mrs. Peller is going to do ads for Ben's 100 insect repellents. Her new battle cry will be "Where's the Bens?"
