100 years ago

Dec. 26, 1912: The people at Foosland, a few miles east of Bellflower, are building a toboggan slide. It’s almost finished. The runway will be iced for almost half a mile.

75 years ago

Dec. 26, 1937: Former police officer Francis Kauth was fatally injured in a fight at the Carlton Club, 210 W. Washington St. Police arrested Moss Carver, 28, a boxer and wrestler. It happened about 4 a.m. Christmas morning. Authorities ordered the club closed for now.

50 years ago

Dec. 26, 1962: Mary Ann Hyde, formerly of Bloomington, will be in the Orange Parade on New Year’s Day. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rolland G. Hyde, still live at 1233 E. Jefferson St. Miss Hyde is an ISNU graduate and works for a rental car agency in Florida.

25 years ago

Dec. 26, 1987: A family tie to the Danvers Farmers Elevator Company ended when Ron Bernau stepped down from the board. His 23 years made a total of 80-plus years his family has been part of the elevator. In 1903 his grandfather bought in, holding stock certificate number 43.
