LEXINGTON — Additional information is expected Friday in the death of a Northlake resident, who was killed Thursday when a sport utility vehicle crashed into the back of a semitrailer truck on Interstate 55 about two miles south of Lexington.
Illinois State Police and the McLean County coroner’s office are investigating the crash that was reported around 9 a.m. and caused interstate traffic to be rerouted from southbound I-55 until about 2:30 p.m., said state police Master Sgt. Mike Ross.
The victim was pronounced dead at 9:48 a.m., according to a coroner’s office news release. Northlake is a Chicago suburb.
“Family of the deceased is requesting that no further information be released at this time pending notification of additional family members,” according to the release. “An autopsy was performed and results are pending.”
State police said they could not release any further information on the accident Thursday night, including whether anyone else was injured.
Normal, Lexington and Towanda fire departments also responded to the scene, according to the release.
