LINCOLN -- The 3-year-old daughter who survived the attack that killed the Rick and Ruth Gee family remains hospitalized under police guard and in state custody, officials said Wednesday.
Tabitha Gee is listed in fair condition at a Peoria hospital, and security precautions surrounding her are unchanged, Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols said Wednesday at a news conference in Lincoln.
The state Department of Children and Family Services confirmed this week that the agency has been given temporary custody of Tabitha and Jessica Gee, the Gees' disabled daughter who resides in a long term care facility.
DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlow declined to comment Wednesday on reports that Nicole Gee has been barred from visiting Tabitha in the Peoria hospital. Nicole Gee is the older daughter of Rick Gee and ex-wife of murder suspect Christopher J. Harris.
Marlow did confirm that DCFS works closely with law enforcement in cases such as the Gee slayings, and "given that DCFS has temporary custody, we would be responsible for establishing and monitoring visitation" of the child.
