MINONK -- Minonk has had to adjust its budget to cover a higher-than-expected cost for the storm water drainage improvements project.
Farnsworth Group engineer Bob Kohlhase said six bids were received, and all were higher than initial estimates.
Kohlhase said the estimates were extrapolated from 2008 bids and anticipated inflation. He said the higher bids reflected an improved economy and increased prices for products and workers' compensation.
"I think you have valid bids here. I think you have competitive bids for the price of doing this work at this time," he told the council this week.
Hein Construction of Peoria was the lowest qualified bidder, with a base bid of $1,052,679.
The council amend the 2012 budget to cover the higher cost, as only $850,000 had been budgeted.
It was the last council meeting for aldermen Sean Cunningham and Corey Ruestman. Sworn in were new aldermen Justin Faulk and Russell Ruestman and incumbents Julie Redenius and Nick Fiorini.
