MINONK – You soon may be able to cruise Minonk in a golf cart, provided you follow certain rules.
The Minonk City Council will act on the proposal Aug. 20. It calls for golf cart drivers to be at least 21, have proof of liability insurance on the cart and a permit from the city.
Carts also must have seatbelts for all passenger seats, in addition to other requirements. The carts could be driven on any city street, except state Route 251 and Chestnut Street between Fourth and Sixth streets.
Janis Hovey of Minonk favors the idea, especially with the high cost of gasoline.
Water bill
The city has ordered a new water meter for Clara Arrowsmith, 834 Johnson St., whose daughter has complained on her behalf about exceptionally high water bills despite low usage.
The old meter only could show whether there was a leak; the new one will be able to show a history of usage.
