Donation aids fire district

LeROY — Austin O’Neall of O’Neall Scholl Farms has directed $2,500 to LeRoy Fire Protection District through America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer.

The department will use the funds to expand training and continue to build the district training site.

DAR to dedicate plaque

NORMAL — Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will dedicate a plaque honoring Margaret Langstaff Van Leer on May 3. The annual meeting will be at Broadview Mansion, home of Immanuel Bible Foundation, 1301 S. Fell, Normal.

The dedication opens to the public at 2:30 p.m. for mansion tours, plaque viewing and refreshments.

Diamond Honoree event April 17

BLOOMINGTON — The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois' will honor Illinois State University President Larry and First Lady Marlene Dietz at the organization's annual Diamonds & Desserts event on April 17.

The award is given to an person or persons in recognition of their leadership and community service. 

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Jack Lewis Jewelers on Eastland Drive. There will be cocktails, appetizers, a dessert competition and a chance for a grand prize gift certificate from Jack Lewis. Tickets are $50. Visit www.GetYourGirlPower.org for more information.

All proceeds go to development programs for Girl Scouts.

Democratic chair to speak

BLOOMINGTON — Erik Rankin, chairman of the McLean County Democrats, will give a State of the Party speech April 18 at the Democrat headquarters, 422 N. Main St., Bloomington.

Rankin will speak at 2:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m.

Quilt group plans raffle

ATLANTA — Atlanta Quilt Corner will host a four quilt raffle to benefit Atlanta Memorial Community House maintenance projects.

Purchased tickets are good for all four drawings.

Two quilts are displayed at Atlanta Library, one is at Dixie Restaurant, McLean, and and last will be at Atlanta Library in May and move to the Dixie after July 4. Tickets are available through Sept. 11 at the Atlanta Library checkout desk and The Dixie cashier counter, as well as at the drawings: 10:30 a.m. April 20, Atlanta Park; 7 a.m.-1 p.m. May 27, Atlanta Fire Barn; 8 p.m. July 4, The Dixie cashier counter; and 5-9 p.m. Sept. 12-14 at Atlanta Park.
