BLOOMINGTON - Michelle Anderson, who was recently appointed McLean County auditor, announced her candidacy for the office Thursday.
Anderson, a graduate of Illinois State University with a double major of accounting and business teacher education, was appointed by the McLean County Board in September to fill the unexpired term of Jackie Dozier, who retired July 31 after nine years as auditor.
Anderson, a Republican, will seek election to the remaining two years of the term.
The auditor's office is responsible for analyzing county expenditures, cutting checks for the county, internal audits and preparing a 220-page financial report.
Anderson, who has worked in the auditor's office for two years, said she wants to "continue to build strong internal controls for McLean County and respect that tax dollars entrusted to public servants come with an obligation."
She previously was a financial reporting specialist in the auditor's office and has private-sector experience as an assurance associate with Clifton-Gunderson, a Peoria-based accounting firm, and an associate accountant with RLI Insurance Co., a Peoria-based specialty insurance company.
