The Rev. Peter Zorjan has been named chaplain of the John Paul II Catholic Newman Center as part of leadership changes within the Catholic Diocese of Peoria that will take effect June 15.
Zorjan will serve as administrator of St. Patrick’s Parish in Bloomington, as well as at Newman Center, which serves students from Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan universities and Heartland Community College. A $3 million upgrade of the center was completed last year.
Zorjan has served as parochial vicar at St. Pius X Parish in Rock Island since his 2007 ordination. He succeeds the Rev. Kevin Lucas, who will become parochial vicar of St. Mark’s Parish, Peoria, and assistant chaplain at St. Joseph’s Newman Center at Bradley University.
Among other assignments within the diocese, the Revs. Philip Halfacre and Dustin Schultz will serve at St. Michael the Archangel, Streator. The Rev. Jeffrey Laible, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Lincoln, and St. Mary’s Mission, Atlanta, will also lead St. Patrick’s, Elkhart, and its mission of St. Thomas Aquinas, Mount Pulaski. In addition, Laible will share chaplain duties at Logan Correctional Center and Lincoln Correctional Center with the Rev. Glenn Fontana, who will become parochial vicar of the churches in Lincoln, Elkhart, and Mount Pulaski.
