FAIRBURY - Albert (Abe) L. Meyer, 75, of Fairbury, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 18, 2006) at Manorcare, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Forrest, with Pastor Corinne Blissard officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Forrest, BroMenn Hospice, Wiley Cemetery at Colfax or a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Dec. 25, 1930, to James and Ada Kerber Meyer of Colfax. He married Marjorie Brandt on May 17, 1953, at Colfax. She survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Whalen, Chenoa; a brother, Frank Meyer, Colfax; two daughters, Vera (John) Wahls, Pontiac and Mary Lou (Tom) Culkin, Fairbury; one son, Roger (Julie) Meyer, Colfax; eight grandchildren, Justin (Anna Lee) Wahls, Aaron Wahls, Jill (Tom) Jenks, Joni (Dayton) Kilgus, Amber Culkin, Shelly Meyer, Luke Meyer, and Carly Meyer; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Jenks and Adeline Kilgus.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; a brother; a daughter, Ruth Ann; and a son, Keith Allen.
He served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953 and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Forrest, American Legion Post 274 and a lifetime VFW Post 10097 member. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and woodworking.
