LeROY — Alfred L. Stoops, 87, of LeRoy, formerly of Cooksville, died at 11:25 p.m. Thursday (May 19, 2011) at Heartland Manor Care, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Interment will be in Blue Mound Cemetery, rural Cooksville. David Oneall will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the memorial home.
Memorials may be made to Peace Meals or Community Cancer Center.
He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Blue Mound Township, McLean County, a son of Luke I. and Alma Sutter Stoops. He married Phyllis Kagel on June 12, 1948, in Bloomington. Phyllis died July 16, 1983.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne (Charlotte) Stoops of Cooksville; a sister-in-law, Marion Stoops of Bloomington; and 10 nephews and nieces, Terry, Gary and Steve Stoops, Juanita Taylor, Lana Juarez Roberts, Ruth Poppe, Janet Hogan, Karen Wyant, Mary Kerber and John Kagel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Samuel Stoops; and a sister, Iola Juarez.
Mr. Stoops farmed for more than 40 years in the Cooksville, Ellsworth and Bloomington area prior to retirement. He was a member of the McLean County Farm Bureau and the Cousins Breakfast Club.
