MINIER — Alma J. Denny, 94, Minier, died Wednesday (April 17, 2013) at her home.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Funks Grove Church, rural McLean, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Tendall officiating. Burial will be at Funks Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Haensel Funeral Home, Minier, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Community Cancer Center, 407 E. Alma was born July 28, 1918, near Stanford, daughter of Bert and Kate Sharp Smith. She married Ora J. Denny on Nov. 26, 1937. They were married 71 years before he died May 29, 2008.
Alma is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Owen) Romine, Stanford; two grandsons, Craig (Colleen) Romine, Stanford, and Todd (Kim) Romine, Bloomington; two great-granddaughters, Marisa and Nora; two stepgreat-grandsons, Brandon and Cody; one sister, Helen (Jack) Simpson, Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.
Alma and Ora farmed near Stanford for nearly 40 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, gardening and sewing. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Stanford and served on various committees. She was a Farm Bureau member and on the Women’s Committee. Alma especially enjoyed being involved in the Ag in the Classroom project. She spent much time volunteering at BroMenn Hospital and helping with its annual bazaar.
When Alma moved to Minier, she volunteered at Hopedale Medical Complex.
