BLOOMINGTON - Alvin R. Dickerson Sr., 80, of 202 S. Roosevelt Ave., No. 408, Bloomington, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday (Dec. 9, 2005) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. A military service will be performed by Carl S. Martin Post 635. There will be no visitation. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Crippled Children's Hospital.
He was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Bloomington, a son of James and Sarah Jane Hickman Dickerson. He married Janiera Cochran on April 28, 1944, in Bloomington. Janiera passed away May 31, 1984.
He is survived by one son, James C. (Vicki) Dickerson, Rosebud, Ark..; one daughter, Martha J. Dickerson, Bloomington; grandchildren, James (Mylinda) Dickerson Jr., Denver, Colo.; Jeffrey (Robin) Dickerson, Mackinaw; Alvin Lee (Angie) Dickerson, Bloomington; and J.R. Dickerson, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Gregory, Shelia, Donovan, Darion, Nicholas and Mackenzie; one sister, Leona (Bud) Brown, Bloomington; and numerous family members and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Alvin R. Dickerson Jr. and little Henry; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dickerson; one grandson, Robert Shawn; one brother, Edward; and three sisters, Mary Ann Ellis, Wanda Carsel and Ada Mae Rutledge.
He was affiliated with the Salvation Army.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.
