ASTORIA — Anna Danner, 100, of Astoria, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2014) at her daughter's home in Bloomington.
She was born March 7, 1914, in Sangamon County, the daughter of John B. and Barbara Fahs Werner. Anna married Harold Devere Danner on April 29, 1939, in Astoria. Harold preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1969.
Survivors include her three daughters, Dorothy Veitengruber and Shirley Danner, both of Bloomington; and Beverly Stuckwisch, Industry; six grandchildren, Al (Dee) Veitengruber, Stanford; Linda (Roger) Engle, Cortland; Richard (Terri Brookshier) Veitengruber, Bloomington; Kirk (Lisa) Veitengruber, Bloomington; Angela (Terry Foulk) Stuckwisch, Macomb; and Andrew (Kaylee) Stuckwisch, Clinton; seven great-grandchildren, Katrina (Joel) St. Pierre, Highland; Elise (Kyle) Frazier, Bloomington; Tim (Colleen) Veitengruber, Decatur; Allie Veitengruber, Glendale, Ariz.; and Jennifer Veitengruber, Max Veitengruber and Jake Veitengruber, all of Bloomington; five great-great-grandchildren, Cole and Liam Frazier, Isaac and Alayna St. Pierre, and Anna Veitengruber; her sister, Esther Bowser, Elkton, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by three sisters, Amelia Stambaugh, Rosalee Wickert and infant Dorothy Werner; one brother, Maurice Werner; son-in-law, Alvin Veitengruber; and an infant granddaughter.
She moved to Fulton County when she was 7 years old and graduated from Astoria High School in 1932. She worked as a domestic for more than 30 families. She also was a seed sorter at Mummert Seed Co. in Astoria and worked at the Astoria Locker Plant.
Anna did quilting for many people, quilting more than 100 quilts for other people. She quilted quilts for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was well known for her pie baking, especially coconut cream.
Anna was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren. She was president of Sunshine Club and president of South Fulton Senior Citizens Group in Astoria. She was a member of Woodland Cemetery Board.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. The Rev. Kevin Kessler and the Rev. Gary Yoder will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to Woodland Church of the Brethren or Camp Emmanuel.
