DWIGHT — Arnold Drechsel, 90, Dwight, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday (May 3, 2011) at Heritage Manor, Dwight.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dwight, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. The Rev. Daniel Ognoskie will officiate. Burial will be at Round Grove Cemetery, rural Dwight. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mr. Drechsel was born May 21, 1920, in Dwight, the son of Elias and Julia Kepplinger Drechsel. He married Darlene Mau on Jan. 8, 1949.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Darlene, Dwight; daughters, Suzanne (Dave) Huston, Roseville; Lana (Ralph) Brown, Chenoa; and Cheryl (Ed) Illman, Utica; sister, Ruth Imhauser, Chebanse; five grandchildren, Daniele Brown, Andrea Whisker, Tom Stalter, Mark Huston and Sarah Stalter; and son-in-law, Mike Stalter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Stalter; and one sister, Grace Drechsel.
Arnold was a farmer for over 50 years. In addition to grain farming, he raised livestock, including cows, chickens, ducks, goats and other animals. He was a Pioneer Seed dealer for 41 years. After retiring, he gardened and was a “regular” with his produce at the Dwight Farmers Market.
Arnold was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dwight, and was secretary of the church trustees for more than 20 years and played on the church’s dart league. He was also treasurer of Round Grove Cemetery for 39 years.
Mr. Drechsel was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945.
