CLINTON — Lyle H. “Oly” Nelson, 92, of Bloomington, formerly of Clinton, died at 11:05 a.m. Friday (March 4, 2011) at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy.
His service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lyle Nelson Memorial Fund in care of Calvert Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Wapella, a son of Benjamin Franklin and Ida M. Kesecker Nelson. He married Dorothy Lucille Hans. Dorothy passed away in 1973.
He is survived by three children, Frank (Shannon) Nelson of Hudson, Edward (Kathy) Nelson of Heyworth and Barb (Bill) Keiser of Bloomington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one brother, Gerald Nelson of Bloomington; and two sisters, Bonnie Breeze and Rhea Peterson, both of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Michael; one grandson, Jonathon; three brothers; and one sister.
He was a member of First Christian Church and VFW Post 454 in Bloomington. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired mechanic from Finfrock Ford Motor Agency, Clinton.
