BLOOMINGTON — Lowell P. Dickson, 84, Bloomington, formerly of Danvers, passed away at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday (June 28, 2011) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers, with military honors accorded by Carl S. Martin Post 635 and Louis E. Davis Post 56 American Legion Honor Guard, Bloomington-Normal. The Rev. Jim Smiley will officiate. Memorials may be made to Bloomington VFW Post 454. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Lowell was born May 30, 1927, in Mount Hope Township, the son of Robert Isaac and Dora Ina Taylor Dickson. He married Geneva Catherine George on Aug. 23, 1947, in Danvers. She passed away April 14, 1991.
Surviving are two children, Donna Dickson, Bloomington, and Gary (Sandy) Dickson, Normal; three grandchildren, James L. (Amanda) Dickson, McLean; Andrew R. (Amanda) Dickson, Bloomington; and Kathryn (Robert) Walters; four great-grandchildren, Beau, Brady, Jayden and Alivia; one sister, Florence Otto, Ava, Mo.; three brothers, John (Fran) Dickson, Peoria; Donald (Bertie) Dickson, O’Fallon; and William G. Dickson, Texas; and his longtime friend and companion, June Sophie, Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul; and two sisters, Jane Kath and Anita Jones.
He was a United States World War II Navy veteran serving onboard a destroyer, the USS Higbee, as part of the Pacific Fleet. He was a member of VFW Post 454 as well as Moose Lodge 745. He worked for Caterpillar in East Peoria for 30 years.
Lowell spent the past 2½ years at Evergreen Village in Normal.
He was a good and honorable man who will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
