BLOOMINGTON — Walter J. Kraft, 73, of Bloomington died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday (March 20, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington, with Monsignor Douglas Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Church Remembering, Rebuilding and Renewing capital campaign or Masses.
Walt was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Bloomington, the son of Walter H. and Marguerite Freehill Kraft. He married Margaret R. Callahan on Aug. 25, 1962, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Walter R. (Kathleen) Kraft, Bloomington; a daughter, Patricia (Jeff) Tucker, Davenport, Iowa; a son-in-law, Mark Corbett, Boston; eight grandchildren, Michael and Margaret Kraft, Jack and Ray Tucker, and Tessa, Kel, Bret and Kurt Corbett; one sister, Mary Therese Whalen, River Forest; and one brother, Michael L. (Sharon) Kraft, Pontiac.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Marie Corbett.
Walt was a 1954 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Marquette University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was a sergeant with the military police in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He was an electrician and a member of Local 197, Bloomington. He served as supervisor for J.L. Simmons at Firestone in Bloomington for 24 years.
He was a member of the Fr. John D. Ring Knights of Columbus Council 574 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454, both in Bloomington.
