NORMAL -- Edwin Richard Apps, 91, of Normal died at 12:11 p.m. Sunday (July 5, 2009) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with interment at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. The Rev. Camilla Hempstead will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Bloomington, a son of Palmer Richard and Maude Elizabeth Barling Apps. He married Irene W. Newby on Nov. 16, 1940, at Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jean (Wayne) Childers, Kappa, and Janet (Robert) Briggs, Bloomington; a son, Jerry (Deborah) Apps, Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Louis Seeger; a daughter, Joyce Watkins; and one great-grandson.
Mr. Apps worked as a carpenter in the Bloomington-Normal area for many years prior to retirement.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Bloomington Eagles Aerie 527 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 745, Bloomington.
Ed was a very loving husband and father and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren equally.
