BLOOMINGTON - David Buss Baum, 87, Bloomington, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 18, 2009) at the Heartland Health Care, Normal.
A graveside inurnment service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery, Quincy. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Emblem Club Scholarship Fund, Bloomington. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
He was born June 27, 1922, in Quincy, the son of Edgar William and Esther Marie Buss Baum. He had married Helen I. Wheeler and Margaret Riddle. They precede him in death. He later married Sandra Stephenson. She survives of Bloomington.
Also surviving are two children, Alan (Debi) Baum, Chatham, and Jana (Ken) McLean, Bloomington; one sister, Joan Beatty, Springfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Lisa.
David was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European and Pacific theatres. David graduated from the University of Illinois in 1943. He was a lifetime member of the Bloomington Elks Lodge, VFW and American Legion. David was a member of the Bloomington Masonic Lodge and Consistory and Mohammed Temple Shrine of Peoria. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service, and after he retired, he operated his own land appraisal business, D.B. Baum Inc. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and wintering in Florida.
