NORMAL — George A. Southwick, 86, of Normal died Saturday (March 12, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Monsignor Eric Powell will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal, with full military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to High Flight program or Humane Society of Central Illinois.
He was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Massapequa, N.Y., to Harry and Edith Stillman Southwick. He married Leona L. “Noni” Ongania on Aug. 20, 1947, in Freeport, N.Y. Noni survives.

Also surviving are a son, George H. “Skip” (Sharon) Southwick, Hudson, and a daughter, Donna Southwick, Tallula; a grandson, Adam (Nicole) Southwick, Normal; a great-granddaughter, Savana Southwick; a sister, Carol Barbiero, Howard Beach, N.Y.; and a brother, Edwin Southwick, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Mr. Southwick formerly owned and operated the Skelly Truck Stop in Normal and later the Gala Restaurant in El Paso. He later worked at Hazy Hills golf course in rural Hudson prior to retirement.
He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal; the Carl S. Martin American Legion Post 635, Normal; and the John H. Kraus Post 454 VFW, Bloomington.
He was a loving husband father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family and many friends.
