BLOOMINGTON — Henry L. Powell, 85, Bloomington, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday (June 15, 2010) at Bloomington Rehabilitation Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Wellington, Texas, a son of Johnny Calvin and Emma Spiegel Powell.
He married Yvonne L. Amerman from Goodfield on Sept. 24, 1957. She survives.
He is also survived by five daughters, Wendy (Brian) Havron, Lincoln; Cindy Wilburn, Bloomington; Julie (Ken) Tuttle, Lexington; Tina (Rod) Holliger, Bloomington; and Patricia Powell, Lincoln; three sons, Steven Powell, Borger, Texas; Mark (Pam) Powell, Normal; and Matt Powell, Bloomington; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Goldie Bates, Pueblo, Colo.; and one brother, Bobby Ray (Feleise) Powell, Lefors, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one son, one sister and two brothers.
Henry retired from The Eureka Co. in 1990, after 23 years.
After being drafted in the U.S. Army and serving in Europe during World Was II, he volunteered for the U.S. Air Force in 1946.
He was a kind, loving husband, father and friend who will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Henry knew no strangers.
He loved bowling, gardening, traveling and adored his family.
