BLOOMINGTON - Richard "Ricky" D. Hawk, 58, Bloomington, passed away at 7:18 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 25, 2009) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today. The Rev. Randy Perry will officiate. Interment will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
He was born April 12, 1951, in Bloomington, son of Ora Weldon and Elsie Sheppard Hawk. He married Susan Kletz on Aug. 7, 1976, in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Hawk, Bloomington; two sons, Nicholas O. and Ronald L. Hawk, both of Bloomington; five brothers, John, Ora Weldon Jr., Curt (Diane) and Thomas (Sheryl), all of Bloomington; and Timothy (Paul) Hawk, Wisconsin; one sister, Vicki Hawk, Bloomington; and his granddaughter, the "sunshine of his life," Lucy Morgan Hawk, Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one great-niece.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He obtained the rank of staff sergeant. After his active service, he continued to serve his country as a reservist, and after 22 years, he retired in 1995. While serving in the reserves, Richard also worked for Cargill where he was a scale operator for 35 years. He was a proud life member of VFW Post 454 in Bloomington.
