NORMAL — Joyce Ann Smock Alcorn, 58, Normal, died at 11:42 p.m. Saturday (July 30, 2011) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at the VFW in Bloomington. Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials may be made to Illinois State University School of Theatre or the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Bloomington, to Raymond M. “Smokey” and Margie “Irene” Ball Smock. She married Gary Alcorn on June 27, 1992, at Funks Grove. Gary survives of Normal.
Other survivors are her mother, Irene Swearingen, Normal; son, Todd Smith, Bloomington; two stepdaughters, Jamie Alcorn and Jessica Alcorn, both of Bloomington; three brothers, Raymond (Missy) Smock, Normal; Charles (Robin) Smock, Bloomington; and Eddie (Patti) Smock, Towanda; three grandchildren; and special friends, Patty Sears, Pat Baize and Cathy Ethington, all of Bloomington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Harold “Red” Swearingen; and one son, Donald Earl Smith.
Joyce was a rural letter carrier for the post office. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, attending plays with Gary, and spending time with her friends.
