NORMAL — Mildred Elizabeth Girard, 93, Normal, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sunday (April 10, 2011) at her residence.
A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. OSF Hospice Chaplain Stephanie Soon will officiate. East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Cancer Center, 407 E. Vernon Ave., Normal, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mildred was born May 21, 1917, in Washington, the daughter of Harry O. and Ella Agusta Blaine Burton. She married Virgal L. Hinthorn in 1933 and later married Edward A. Girard in 1953. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1995.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother; two sisters; and one son, Robert E. Hinthorn.
She is survived by three sons, Darwin V (Betty) Hinthorn, Richard A. Hinthorn and Edward (Pat) Girard; two daughters, Jacquelyn Ann Girard and Toni (Ed) Heitz; and her adopted son, Chet (Kim) Shelton. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mildred enjoyed a long career with Bloomington Pantagraph Printing and Stationery before retiring in 1980. She was also a member of the VFW Bloomington Women’s Auxiliary Lodge 454 and was a longtime, avid Cubs fan.
