BLOOMINGTON — Jerrold B. Clayton, 81, Bloomington, died at 5:50 p.m. Monday (Aug. 2, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Greg Summers officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Corydon Cemetery, Corydon, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Community Cancer Center, Normal.
He was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Paul T. Clayton and Charlotte Berry. He married Virginia Wilkins on May 1, 1981, in Geneseo.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Jeri Beckmann, Des Moines, Iowa; Connie Gries, Lamars, Iowa; Michael Clayton, Lamars, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Nancy Lyford, Geneseo, and Cheryl Johnson, Moline; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Paul T. Clayton.
Jerry was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of VFW, Moose Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed sports.
