Barbara Jean Fitschen Garza, 63, of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2017) at Heartland Health Care Center, Normal, following a courageous 18-month battle against cancer.
Born Nov. 15, 1954, in Peoria, to Charles Robinson Fitschen and Phyllis Held Fitschen, she grew up in Washburn, graduating from Lowpoint-Washburn High School. She was a member of Washburn Christian Church.
She was a faithful employee in the insurance industries of Bloomington for over 40 years, retiring in 2014.
She married Joe Garza on May 29, 1995. Together they operated Four Seasons Photography.
Barb loved her chihuahua, RoxE; the city of Las Vegas and George Strait. She was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs who finally fulfilled her lifelong dream of a World Series win.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Garza; her mother, Phyllis Ulrich; her sister, Beverly (Paul) Perry, Columbus, Ind.; and with her beloved nieces and nephews, Brandon (Carylin) Perry, Kristen (Will) Washburn, Bethany (Jeremy) Kuenzi and Marcus (Sarah) Perry. Her heart’s joy was her grandnieces and -nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Berta Garza, and brother-in-law, Daniel Garza.
She was predeceased by her father; her paternal grandparents, Carl and Eula Fitschen; her maternal grandparents, Cecil and Cora Held; and father-in-law, Jose Garza.
A private family gathering is planned in Columbus, Ind., and a celebration of life for friends and family at Snyder Village Community Room in Metamora will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society.
