FAIRBURY - Bernice Irene Walter, 80, Fairbury, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 17, 2005) at Fairview Haven, Fairbury.
She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Graymont, to William F. and Bessie V. Ekstrom Smith.
She married Robert P. Walter Sr. on Oct. 19, 1944, in Pontiac. He preceded her in death Oct. 19. 1981.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy (Gary) Bennett, Fairbury; one son, Robert (Karen) Walter, Fairbury; five grandchildren, Scott Steele, Robert Steele, Keisha Sanders, Courtney Bahler and Jeremy Walter; and four great-grandchildren, Mallory Bahler, Trystan Bahler, Clayton Bahler and Ayden Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one son, Tommy Walter.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Fairbury. The Rev. Charles McDonald will officiate. Visitation was held yesterday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. Burial will be in Fairbury Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Fairbury.
Mrs. Walter was a homemaker, a nurse's aide at Fairbury Hospital, and later owned and operated the Tastee Freeze with her husband for eight years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairbury, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
