DELPHI, Ind. — Betty J. McKinley Cripe, 86, Delphi, Ind., died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 18, 2011) at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, Ind. She had been in failing health and a resident there since April 2010.
Her service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, Ind., with the Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi, Ind. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll Manor Home, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
She was born July 18, 1924, in Salem, Ind., daughter of Clarence D. and Mary A. Wiseman McKinley. Her marriage was to Loyal Cripe in Delphi, on Sept. 11, 1955. He survives.
She was a 1942 graduate of Delphi High School, then received her four-year registered nursing degree from Indiana University School of Nursing. She worked for Dr. George Wagoner in Delphi, and was the industrial nurse at the former Gerber Globe Valve factory, Delphi. She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa Sorority and Carroll County Nurses Association. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed working in her flower gardens on their family farm.
Survivors include her husband, Loyal Cripe, Delphi, Ind.; sons, James “Jim” (Nancy) Cripe, Delphi, Ind.; John (Laura) Cripe, Downs; and Kevin (Kim) Cripe, Delphi, Ind.; sister, Sarah Lewis, Rockford; brother, Jim (Sue) McKinley, Terre Haute, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
