FAIRBURY — Capt. Nathan J. Nylander, 35, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Fairbury, was killed April 27, 2011, at an airport in Kabul, Afghanis-tan.

A visitation will be from 5 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery, Tucson. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pantano Christian Church, 10355 East 29th St., Tucson.

He was born Jan. 23, 1976, in Illinois.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Miriam Nylander, and three children; his mother, Mary (Charles) Grant, Ormond Beach, Fla.; father, Wendell “Butch” (Carol) Nylander, Fairbury; two sisters, Nikki Kelly and Tara Norris; and one stepbrother, Chris Bivens.

Capt. Nylander was a flight commander with the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing base in the Afghan capital.

Nathan was a true American hero.
