CLINTON — Carl R. Dulany, 70, of Clinton passed away from complications due to ALS on Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2015) peacefully at home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1944, in Bloomington, the son of George H. and Ethel Mae Dulany.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Dulany; children, Natalie (Scott) Manke, Chicago; Travis Dulany, Clinton; and Vanessa (Jeff) Hansen, St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Hope, Chase, Faith and Matthew Manke; sisters, Sharon Tallon and Elizabeth (Ron) Jones, both of Bloomington; and several beloved brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Kathryn Stone.
Carl was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He trained at the Great Lakes Naval Base and served in Iceland.
He was a construction supervisor for GTE/Verizon for almost three decades. Following retirement, Carl did mowing and tilling for several friends and neighbors.
Carl’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
He was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled hunter and fisherman. He loved shooting and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
His favorite day of the week was Wednesday when his loyal, rowdy friends would gather for morning coffee.
He was a charter member of the Weldon Springs Foundation, trustee of Creek Township and a member of the American Legion.
The family is especially grateful for the precious caregivers that cared for Carl with so much love throughout his illness.
Friends may call for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. A memorial service will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Military honors will follow immediately.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the ALS Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America or a charity of the donor’s choice.
