HUDSON - Carroll Dean Shiner, 79, of 13121 E. 2500 North, Hudson, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Monday (June 18, 2007) at BroMenn Hospital in Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hudson Christian Church. The Rev. Bill Vandervoort will officiate. Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hudson Christian Church or American Cancer Society.

Carroll was born Dec. 18, 1927, in rural Hudson, a son of Carroll A. and Mabel Hinshaw Shiner. He married Evelyn I. Schroeder on June 5, 1977, at Hudson Christian Church. She survives.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig M. Shiner of Durham, N.C., and Keith L. Shiner of Bloomington; one stepsister, Dorothy (Vernon) Brickey of Bloomington; one stepgranddaughter, Kaylee Shiner of Bloomington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Sadie Shiner.

Carroll was a member of the Hudson Christian Church, where he served as church treasurer and taught Sunday School for many years. He also had memberships in Hudson Grain, McLean County Farm Bureau, Heartland FFA Alumni, and was the Hudson Ag 4-H leader. In high school, Carroll played on the 4-H softball team and the FFA basketball team.

He loved farming and traveling with his wife, Evelyn. He especially enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball games, and was a fan of the Lawrence Welk show.

A veteran, Carroll served his country from 1952 to 1954 as a radar technician during the Korean War.

Carroll was a loving and generous husband and father. He always had a smile on his face and was a really good friend to many. He will be deeply missed by his wife, sons, cousins, family and friends.
